what do I need from you?
Once you have worked out your pages, you need to decide what content appears on each page.
Organise and type out text for each page and save it in a Word document. Make sure your wording and text is designed for your audience. If you deal with the general public, keep it simple. If you are specialist, use terminology that your audience will understand. Include a glossary in your website if you think a client will require it for reference. When writing text, keep your writing style simple, easy to understand, and to the point.
If you need some help with your text and working out your pages and site map, please give me a call on 08 9574 4106 or email me as I would be more than happy to give you some suggestions.
If you need help writing the content, if you provide me with the basic information or bullet points, I am happy to rewrite the text to fit your website also.
If you are including a photo gallery, list the images you want to include and think about descriptive text for each image. For example, for Jonathon Hook Ceramics his products are broken into 4 main areas. Within each main area they are again separated into groups, and when the image is viewed using “Lightbox” coding, he gives the name of the product, brief description and size (Onion Vases | Standard Sizes | Sizes: 320 . 280 . 250 Classic | 5 Standard Sizes | 340 . 300 . 270 . 230 . 190)
If you have a style you would like me to replicate, colour scheme, fonts etc, provide previous design examples such as fliers, stationery, advertising or annual reports for me to work to. Pdf versions are fine. If they used photographs and you want to include them, please see if you can source the original image. If you use a specific colour scheme, send a digital sample to me or let me know the Colour book or colour breakdown so that I can replicate it exactly ie. Pantone 455, (R= 5, G=55, B=0), (C=4, M=55, Y=120, K=0).
Where possible, please supply photos you would like included on a dvd or cd in the highest resolution possible and send it to PO Box 84, Toodyay WA 6566. If you only have a few images, by all means email them to me, but please keep them to approximately one megabyte in size and send only three per email so that my email doesn’t clog up with huge files. Another option would be to use a site such as www.cutesendit.com whereby you upload the files to their server from their website, I receive an email from CuteSendIt and then download it, all without causing my email program to have a nervous breakdown!
I often buy my stock photography from www.dreamstime.com so feel free to suggest any images that you think may work. You don’t have to become a member to search the site for images. Simply click on the small photos to view the individual images at a higher resolution. I need to either have the ID number that appears below, or right mouse click on the larger image to save the jpg and email it to me without changing the name of the image. I will include this image as a placeholder within the concept design, and once you’re happy to use that particular image, I’ll buy it at the required resolution and replace the original placeholder image. If I think you will use this same image for future design jobs, I always buy the larger size image so that it will work at 300dpi for print based jobs. The cost is extremely reasonable and ranges between $3 – $30 per image when converted to Australian dollars.
If you have a logo, please try to provide it in a vector format such as .eps or .pdf. If you are unable to, a high quality tiff or jpg may be suitable, but will have to work on the same colour background as the logo appears on. Ie. It can’t be overlaid on top of a background photo or image. I am happy to create a simple text based logo for your business if you don’t have one, or can create a more complex one if required.
